“..De Vere Resort Ownership, the UK’s largest five-star timeshare operator, called in Dr Alison Blackwell for advice on how to keep midges away from its £50million resort” (The £25,000 plan to let golfers get birdies and not just midge bites, Mail on Sunday, 18/7/04)
Northern Europe, particularly the Scottish Highlands and western Ireland offer some of the finest and wildest of landscapes. The summer months are perhaps when to enjoy such areas to the full; that’s if you don’t let the midges spoil your fun of course! As well as impacting on our leisure activities, midge attacks can significantly affect those involved with outdoor industries and we are now also very aware of a growing threat of midges to our livestock through midge-transmitted diseases.
Midge management is all about reducing your contact with the insects, combined with gradually reducing their overall population where possible. APS personnel have almost 20 years experience of working with biting midges and in partnership with key technology-providers, we can use this knowledge to formulate and management effective midge-management programmes.
APS has used this approach successfully with both the leisure- and most recently, the livestock industry.
